Designer Information
The Barcelona Coffee Table was designed by Mies van der Rohe and is the pure compositional structure that epitomizes modern architecture. Incorporating his signature stylized cross form, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Table (1927) expresses a clarity of form and materials that is immediately recognizable.
The Barcelona Table received The Museum of Modern Art Award, 1977 and the Designer Furniture Center Stuttgart Award, 1978 .
The seamless single-piece construction of the base ensures precision and durability and a 19mm polished glass top completes a master piece in modern designer furniture.
Originally designed for the Tugendhat House in Brno, Czechoslovakia, the table is often paired with the Barcelona Chair for their stylistic parallels
Our version of this modern coffee table is an exceptionally high quality retro furniture reproduction with a 19mm thick clear glass top to the original.
Barcelona Coffee Table Dimensions : 100x100x45cm
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, born Maria Ludwig Michael Mies (March 27, 1886 August 17, 1969) was a German architect.
Mies designed modern furniture pieces using new industrial technologies that have become popular classics, such as the Barcelona chair and Barcelona table, and the Brno chair. His furniture is known for fine craftsmanship, a mix of traditional luxurious fabrics like leather combined with modern chrome frames, and a distinct separation of the supporting structure and the supported surfaces, often employing cantilevers to enhance the feeling of lightness created by delicate structural frames. During this period, he collaborated closely with interior designer and companion Lilly Reich.
Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1930 the glass & chrome based Barcelona Pavilion table is so called as it was incorrectly originally thought to have been designed as part of the Barcelona range, especially as it is often paired with the Barcelona Chair and Stool. In fact it was designed a year later for the Tugendhat house in Brno, CzechGlarevakia with the Brno chair.
Incorporating his signature stylised cross form, the fabulous Barcelona coffee table always looks amazing with the matching Mies van der Rohe Barcelona Chair and Stool.
Our version of this modern Barcelona Coffee Table is an exceptionally high quality version with a 19mm thick clear glass top.
