Designer Information
Marcel Breuer was a German-American architect and designer of Hungarian-Jewish origin. After carpentry apprenticeship at Bauhaus Weimar Breuer worked in the office of Walter Gropius for several years, but then became independent. In 1933 he emigrated from the Third Reich due to his Jewish origin and moved via Hungary and London into the USA. There he established, among other things, the Architecture Faculty of the Harvard University in cooperation with Gropius.
That extremely comfortable Wassily Chair also known by the name of Type B3, is exactly the fitting seat for club areas and chill-out zones. Equipped with a chrome-plated steel worked frame and armrests which are upholstered with easy-care leather. In its holisticness it seems light, noble and generous. An excellent invitation for staying and enjoying.
Breuer was inspired by the shape and form of bicycle handlebars when he created the Wassily Chair in 1925. Breuer believed tubular steel to be affordable, hygienic and able to provide comfort without the need for springs to be introduced quite revolutionary in its time.
100% - Italian Leather.
Wassily Chair Dimensions : 79x72x70cm
Known to his friends and associates as Lajkó, Breuer studied and taught at the Bauhaus in the 1920s. The Bauhaus curriculum stressed the simultaneous education of its students in elements of visual art, craft and the technology of industrial production. Breuer was eventually appointed to a teaching position as head of the school's carpentry workshop. He later practiced in Berlin, designing houses and commercial spaces. In the 1920s and 1930s, Breuer pioneered the design of tubular steel furniture. Later in his career he would also turn his attention to the creation of innovative and experimental wooden furniture.
