How to Clean Leather Furniture.

Leather furniture is beautiful and elegant, and if you follow the following techniques and tips, your furniture will remain in perfect condition for many years.

Before You Begin

It is recommended that before attempting any of the suggestions offered in this article, that you follow the cleaning procedures recommended by the manufacturer of your particular furniture.

When you purchased your furniture your retailer may have recommended you buy a Leather Care Kit containing products which are more appropriate for your furniture, than general cleaning solutions.

Cleaning Instructions

Always start by Vacuuming your leather furniture thoroughly. Attach a very soft brush attachment to your vacuum to avoid scratching the leather.Special Leather Care Wipes

Using a moist cleaning wipe as supplied by your retailer, wipe the furniture completely. The cleaning wipe contains the necessary correct cleaning fluid, to clean and moisturise the furniture. Used regularly these wipes will maintain a healthy shine and keep the leather supple

Next follow the instructions from the Leather Care Kit as supplied by your retailer.

Leather Cleaner, Nourisher and Conditioner Care Kit for Leather Furniture

First apply the Leather cleaner for a deep clean, apply gently using a clean soft cloth or sponge and allow to dry.

Second, apply the Leather Protector. Rub gently on the furniture using a soft cloth and allow to dry.

Finally, apply the Leather Nourisher. Rub gently on the furniture using a clean soft cloth and allow to dry, then buff gently to the require shine and restore luster.

By regular cleaning and the application of the Nourisher and Conditioner your leather furniture will be protected against the elements of everyday use, and remain soft and supple, and as beautiful as the day you purchased.

Additional Tips and Techniques for Accidental Damage.

When addressing the removal of a stain, always test a small, inconspicuous area of the furniture first, before using any of these methods.

Ink stains: Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Gently rub over the ink stain with the cotton swab. Allow to dry naturally or use a hair dryer on the lowest setting. Then apply the Leather Cleaner as previously advised in this article, followed by the Leather Protector and finally the Leather Nourisher

Dark stains from Blood, Food, Mud: Prepare a paste using one part cream of tartar/ one part lemon juice. Using a clean soft cloth gently rub the paste on the stain., and allow the paste to set for 10-15 minutes. Then remove the dry paste with a clean damp cloth. Then apply the Leather Cleaner as previously advised in this article, followed by the Leather Protector and finally the Leather Nourisher

Grease stains: Simply wipe stain from the leather using a Leather Care Wipe, as supplied by your supplier. Never apply water to a grease stain..

Newsprint: Newspapers cause a newsprint ink stain. Simply wipe stain from the leather using a Leather Care Wipe as supplied by you supplier.

Disinfecting Leather: If you need to sanitise your leather furniture as a consequence of a family or friend being sick, then moisten a soft cloth with rubbing alcohol. Start with a test area on a section of the leather that is a small, inconspicuous area of the furniture. If you are satisfied there are no adverse rejection, then wipe down the whole piece of furniture, because the germs are likely to have spread over a large area and are not noticeable to the human eye.

Alcohol can have a drying effect on leather, so you must follow the instructions from the Leather Care Kit as supplied by your retailer.

General Tips, Advice and Techniques

Always clean spills immediately. Leather is naturally porous, and if any liquid is allowed to penetrate the surface, the stain will be extremely difficult to clean. Hence, our advice to apply a good Leather Protector and Leather Nourisher which will protect the leather and reduce the porous effect from spillages.

Never use abrasive cleansers on your leather furniture, these will cause damage to the surface of the leather.

Never use any kind of oils, furniture polish, or any product containing waxes or silicone, particularly car care products on your leather furniture. These will cause damage to the leather. In addition avoid general household cleaning products.These will cause serious damage or discolouration.
